WMIG Gorge Clinic

The Wilderness Medicine Interest Group headed to the Red River Gorge for a series of morning clinics that addressed everything from splinting and frostbite to envenomation and airway managment. Two gallons of hot chocolate helped fend off a wind chill of 20 degrees and the occasional flurries.

Dr. Bowers from UK, Dr. Short from Winchester, and Jim Harrison of the Kentucky Reptile Zoo provided a world of insight into how to deal with emergencies in the backcountry.

After the morning workshops, the group decided to forego hypothermia and headed to the famed Miguel's Pizza for lunch.

With full stomachs and regained peripheral sensation, folks set out on a free tour of the Reptile Zoo or the 5 mi. Courthouse Rock Loop. All-in-all, it was a good day of wilderness medicine and a great excuse to spend time at the Gorge!
